This little TV is more than I dreamed it would be! The picture is PERFECT, and the sound is OK for a unit of this size. I hook mine up to external speakers because I'm picky about sound. :-) I use it in my bedroom, and set the sleep-timer so it goes off automatically. It is very lightweight and easy to operate. I actually haven't tried the dvd player, but I have absolutely no reason to think it would be less than amazing. The picture is clear enough to easily watch from 8 - 10 ' from it. I didn't purchase the set to use in my car, but again, I'm glad to have that option. There is a halter devise enclosed that can be used to strap the unit to the seat so back seat passengers can watch a vidio. My kids are grown, but it would have been the most amazing thing to have with four kids! I will one day be able to try it out on grandkids -- just need the grandkids first.
I am very picky, as I mentioned before, and I can highly recommend this TV/dvd combo for anyone looking for a portable unit with a battery option.
(Mine is hooked to my cable, therefore I cannot speak to its ability to receive on air stations, which would depend on many different factors, i.e., obstructions and location.)
Again, I highly recommend this unit, and I am happy to do so.
